Library Resources

Our Library is a vast storehouse of information, mirroring the various subject interests of the Foundation during its lifetime. Through the Foundation's Enquiry Service (available each weekday 12 noon - 3 p.m.) members of the public may have supervised access to the Library's resources.

The material is varied in format, ranging through books, periodicals, pamphlets, government reports, parliamentary papers, sound and video tapes, CD-ROMS, maps, newspapers, and publications from the Australian Bureau of Statistics in printed and electronic format. There are large holdings in areas of particular interest to the Foundation such as economics, geography, regional research, tourism, leisure and recreation, and water resources.

Public Information Service
Our public information service and library operate - Monday to Friday - 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. Information can also be requested outside these hours (see below). Material is available in a broad range of areas and includes Local Government, State and National level information with a focus on the Hunter & Central Coast.

  • Economic Indicators time series including - unemployment rate, employment growth and job advertisements
  • Employment by industry groupings including - age and gender breakdowns
  • Employment by occupation (broken into 9 categories) including - age and gender breakdown

BUSINESS

  • Small business index - monthly report on national and state-wide trends

ECONOMIC

  • Agriculture - gross value of commodities / number & total area of establishments
  • Household & individual income including - age & gender breakdowns / weekly / annual figures
    Weekly household expenditure including - goods & services

TOURISM

  • Domestic tourism trends including- volume of tourists / types of accommodation / expenditure
  • International tourism figures including - origin of visitors / where they go / what they do

POPULATION

  • Population breakdowns including- LGA / suburb level for Newcastle & Lake Macquarie LGAs
  • Projections to the Year 2010 and beyond

PROPERTY

  • Medium weekly rents for residential properties
  • Household occupancy figures including- people renting / buying / owning their own homes

DEMOGRAPHY

  • Religious denominations of the population
  • Ethnicity information including- birthplace / language spoken at home / proficiency in English
  • Tenure type including- home ownership / numbers being rented
  • Family Structures including - relationships in household by age

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

  • Business and household use of technology including- structure & performance of Information Technology related industry

SOCIAL TRENDS

  • Information for Australia in various areas including- Health, Education, Population, Leisure etc.

CLIMATE

  • Current and historic data for Maryville, Newcastle
