Hunter Region Economic Indicators

A fundamental component of the Foundation’s monitoring program is the maintenance of databases which capture information about the economic health of the Hunter Region. Each issue includes commentary and graphs relating to regional economic conditions as well as comparisons to both the State economy and time series. These indicators cover the key economic areas of employment, commercial activity and consumer spending and include:

  • employment
  • labour force participation rates
  • tourism accommodation
  • production
  • building approvals
  • vehicle registrations
  • retail sales

In addition, the publication includes a number of indicators designed, maintained and reported exclusively by the Foundation. These have been developed over time and include:

  • job advertisements index
  • rental monitor
  • consumer confidence and purchase plans
  • business confidence and performance
  • Hunter Leading Index which tracks likely directions of future regional economic activity

Hunter Region Economic Indicators is produced for the March, June, September and December quarters and released in conjunction with the Hunter Region Economic Update Breakfast function.

Upper Hunter Region Economic Indicators

The Foundation monitors the economic health of the Upper Hunter Region (including Singleton, Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter Shires) through a series of databases. Each issue includes commentary and graphs relating to regional economic conditions as well as comparisons to both the State economy and time series. These indicators cover the key economic areas of employment, commercial activity and consumer spending and include:

  • employment
  • labour force participation rates
  • tourism accommodation
  • production
  • building approvals
  • vehicle registrations
  • retail sales
In addition, the publication includes a number of indicators designed, maintained and reported exclusively by the Foundation. These have been developed over time and include:
